Secretary – Elizabeth Vance
My career as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Pathology began in Sydney, NSW. I moved to the Gold Coast with my husband and children in 1980.
In 1982 I began working at the previous Gold Coast Hospital in Southport. I worked part time in the Haematology and Transfusion Medicine departments. In 1988 I started working the out of hours on call roster 3-4 days per week from 5pm through to 8am.
A few years later this would change to a 24-hour continuous shift roster. I enjoyed my work in these departments and night shifts! In 2013 the new Gold Coast University Hospital opened. I continued my career there until my retirement in 2019.
My association with APRDA began in 1985 with an article in the GC Bulletin. It was about a new Riding for Disabled centre opening in Arundel and they needed volunteers. After 2 years I left due to work commitments but knew that one day I would return.
